Dear Creative Friends,
What do you do with the beauty of a creative ache? You know, that lemon-drop, sweat-tart ache to write, to make art, to start the project, tell the story, change the job? Maybe you don’t know what it is, but there’s this primal call to voice yourself in . . . some way. ROAR. (And meow) voices come in all sizes.)
NOTE: This creative ache can be your beautiful invitation to make art, to make a change, to move somewhere new, to slow down, to question everything. Read this letter with that in mind. But I am using writing/art-ing as the specific act that we’re going to engage in this August, playfully. You can use “playful writing” to start a project or a practice, or to simply write wildly in order to see your path more brightly.
So. How do you answer the creative call? DIVE RIGHT IN, of course. Write the first word, paint/draw the first line. Easy enough, right? You’re ready! You make the date, find the place, open your notebooks, sketchbooks… and … um, f***********ck. Now what? No. I’m scared! Don’t want to! Someone texted! Tomorrow. Yeah, me too. Great intentions, and then: the grand halt.
As my wise, brilliant friend, author Sonya Lea once told me, “None of us does this alone.” We have creative friends & playmates, writing groups, coaches, communities, cheering sections. It’s an ala cart menu of options. You make yours.
There’s also The Artist’s Way, which I’m doing at the moment. Julia Cameron calls it creativity recovery.
The beauty in this ache to create, this dull throb you can’t shake and hurts a bit is an invitation to BEGIN.
In the spirit of Summer Enchantments and Getting Creative, August will offer a month of pop-up salons focused on Playful Writing: prompts, exercises & experiments, an olé! here, a pas-de-deux there. Let’s write with abandon.
Note: If you’re more of a fine artist, come. This will work cross-disciplines.
Here are the details. And if you won’t join us, keep your eyes peeled for occasional playful prompts that you can use toward any of your enchantments or life curiosities and primal drum calls.

✏️🐒🧜🏻♀️💋
If you flirt with getting back to writing, journaling, sketching, or want to begin (or return to) a project, this one’s for you. We're going to spend four 1-hr sessions writing from a variety of prompts and exercises that underscore play and fun to get us into a new state of creating. Let’s shred those struggling-writers myths. These salons will also set you up with a playful toolkit of your own. Experience the mystery, the magic, the synchronicity, the exploration, the je-ne-sais-quoi that transpires when we touch pen to paper and are ready for ANYTHING.
This is for paid Beauty Hunter subscribers, *or* anyone interested in / registered for the Creators' Circle that starts in September.
PS. You can subscribe for just one month at $8, with one free trial week, and receive an entire month of playful writing, at the price I almost spend on my morning coffee. Can't wait to write and play with you. XO
