Impose One Beautiful Moratorium🧜🏻♀️
Summer Camp Week 8 - R&R into saying "no", a daring no, a reviving no!
Summer Camp is opening its doors to all subscribers for its final month, for anyone who could use an extra dose of R&R during these lively times. Welcome!
Hello Beautiful Summer Campers,
A friend recently RSVP’d NO to an invitation to play and catch up.
“I’m imposing a strict moratorium on scheduling any plans this month,” she wrote.
This wise woman had gifted herself a European vacation from a hyper-planned life, and was not adding any more activities to an already full August.
I loved her RSVP! Who couldn’t use more of a cross-breeze somewhere in their lives?
Inspired by her bold idea:
This week, we’re imposing MORITORIUMS*❣️
*Moratorium as defined as “a suspension of activity.”
What can you suspend that will bring in a refreshing gust of R&R—something that will exalt the senses and give your spirit a refreshing break?
Four steps to creating your R&R Summer Camp Moratorium
Decide on the activity you will suspend—even if it feels challenging (“Oh I couldn’t!). Make it something delightful, indulgent, delicious—a real R&R from an exasperating activity.
It can be a physical activity (doing the dishes, making weekday plans, self-improvement reading) or something that’s more behavioral or internal (defending opinions, worrying, future tripping). I’ve included some ideas below.Avoid anything in the “should” category. Say “no” to anything that feels finger-wagging or “good for you,” anything in the “I-want-this-but-keep-not-doing-it”, like: no sugar, no lazing about, no scrolling.
Give your moratorium an end date. How about end-of-Summer Camp, September 10 or end-of-Summer, September 21.
Here’s why: When the identity/ego howls its resistance (I must worry, I must express my opinion, Say “yes” to those plans, Do all the housework, Tell my husband what to do), you can reassure the howling chorus that on September 10, we can go back to worrying/judging/avoiding people/bossing, and that quiets things down.
If you’d like to set small chunks of time, like week-long stepping stones, and “renew or update your contract”, go for it.
💥Summer Infinity Special💥 - $24 off in 2024 and on. Good through Sept 22.
MENU BOARD of Moratoriums
Here are some of my own past moratoriums, plus other ideas
Worrying
Imposing my opinions on others
Social plans during the week (usually during fall/winter, or busy writing periods)
Believing my thoughts
Wearing black, or whatever your go-to color/style might be
Being a martyr (“I’m doing all the work around here!”)
Going to a party with a purpose.
Avoiding people
Saying No to evening plans, or whatever time of day you least like being out in the world
Sleeping past 7 am (which is easy for someone who goes to bed at 9 pm)

‘s Yeah, No, Not Happening
In case you think this is too much, too bold, No I Couldn’t Possibly, or you could use a green light to fucking go for it and SAY NO, here’s a coupon for you and anyone else you know.
Here’s another:
Feel free to hand these out:
I’m having a Summer Infinity Special, 30% off Beauty Hunter for LIFE, through Sept 22. It’s $24 off in 2024, because we all need a break this year. Paid subscriptions include discounts on coaching and workshops, beauty prompts, pop-up salons, seasonal content and more.
Tell us about your Moratoriums!
Gosh, so hard to choose the thing! How about worrying? The thing is, it happens on its own. I will say that with the changing political landscape my worries are vastly diminished. From now on, when I worry I’ll pull out my French vocabulary cards. A diversion!! How about going to the grocery store? Only small and outdoor markets with plenty of social interaction! Thank you 😊
