Dear Friends,
Beauty is omniscient and subjective. In a marriage, this subjectivity can also be a dividing rod.
Example:
“WHAT? You don’t think that crescent moon hanging in the morning sky just like so is the most beautiful thing in the world????”
The Love & Marriage Salon is underway, and the convos have my antennae up and swaying like crazy. At the same time, I’m having a lot of convos with people about Beauty Hunting, and inviting them to make beauty the purpose of living. So let’s do a mash-up of the two: marriage and beauty hunting💋❌
Sometimes I’m a quick study, but in the field of Sharing a Life With Another I’ve been a slooooow learner.
For example, I wasn’t ready for the discordant GONG that rattled my entire nervous system when my husband didn’t care about the same things as me, or at least go as bananas as I did over, say the moon. Or a desire to travel to NYC to see the David Hockney exhibit.
💥It’s the moon, dammit! It’s Hockney!!!😲
[My husband, who is a marriage pro, quickly learned to yell OH MY GOD when he saw a big bald beautiful moon hanging in the sky. He models good, playful marital behavior for me every day.]
The awareness process is so cool, though. I’ve slowly learned to get excited about what Steve thinks is beautiful, too.
Like dirt.
Steve’s Beauty
The most beautiful thing in the world right now for Steve is this heaping, steaming pile of dirt. He’s excited to spread it all over our garden, and I’ve told him I’ll help. 🤥
I was writing from my daybed when the dump truck arrived with the haul. The pile of dirt didn’t get my tail wagging but I knew Steve would like me to join him in a bit of fanfare, so I ran out there to behold the BEAUTY OF THE DIRT!
My Beauty, on the other hand
Today I cracked open The Artist’s Way after 20 years of eye-rolling and shooing away all those suggestions that I do the book. It took hours to get through the introductory pages because my attention span is broken. I spent all those page breaks staring at this painting that stared back from my computer screen.
Isn’t it enchanting?
Coming Monday: We’re going to lick our lips and brainstorm together over some SUMMER ENCHANTMENTS for the next three months. Stay tuned! In the meantime, ask yourself:
WHAT DO YOU WANT TO DO THIS SUMMER*?
WHAT DO YOU WANT TO START OR FINISH?
WHAT DO YOU WANT TO EXPERIENCE, TRY?
FANCY A JOLT OF DELIGHT?
THINK BIG!
[*Or Winter if you’re Down Under.]
Let’s play! XO
