Hi Beautiful, Exquisite Friends,
In the spirit of easing into the year, and using January as a warm-up month, here’s a series of daily amuse-bouches for you this week.
This is dedicated to all of us having a slow start. Do you see me right there with you? Hi!
Ready? OK. January, 2024 Day 1. BACK TO LIFE!
After a fair bit of downtime in December, and holiday-ing in November, I envisioned greeting the year like this celestial creature 👇:
Instead, it felt more like this 👇:
I stayed in bed reading until 8 am, which is just about daybreak where I live. Now, if you told me you read until 8 am, tucked under covers with a matcha latte, I’d say, “Why not! You’re wintering. Good for you, what’s the rush, and what are you reading*?” But when it’s me doing the weekday read-in, the generosity vanishes.
*The Bee Sting, by Paul Murray, a story that is equal parts marvel as it is horror.
So a grumpy start to the day. Maybe a few of you relate a teeny tiny bit?
And yet, like you, mood and all, I carry on, finally sitting down before a screen, opening a document, organizing a stack of papers, facing the calendar, an office window that looks onto cedar trees, the sound of rainfall, until one movement at a time, the mood shifts, the focus engages, and in time we might feel more like this 👇:
And little by little, the grump, the “I-don’t-wanna,” fades as word by word, creative distraction by creative distraction I find myself IN IT — writing this post, creating a new exploration to offer Beauty Hunters, and now, getting excited about having some chicken chili leftovers for dinner with my sweet husband.
That’s what we’re doing here as Beauty Hunters, expanding our capacity for living—the struggle, the resistance, the WTF—one beautiful moment at a time.
