Out to Lunch
On the 12th Day of Beauty, I Return to Serious R & R. With two books I've loved, both alt-history.
Most Beautiful Friends,
It’s the Twelfth Day of Beauty, and I’ve no-showed for almost half of it.
Sometimes you have to shut the damn computer and commit to some serious R&R. When we put our minds to it, we can R&R like pros over here.
While my body’s been resting, my mind has been ricocheting with excitement over this novel pictured in bright lights, below.
Rodham is a wild What If story, reimagining a world in which Hillary Clinton didn’t marry Bill. It’s told in the first person from Hillary Rodham’s POV, and is intimate, mesmerizing, stunning, and exciting all the way through.
It had to take a wallop of courage to write this story, which you’ll understand as soon as you get started. I recently read Sittenfeld’s Romantic Comedy. She’s a genius, with some serious craft chops, the ability to climb into a character like an actor, and she has breadth.
P.S. The other alternative reality novel I read this year, is Biography of X, by and you MUST check out her artful, jaw-dropping website here—complete with living, breathing songbird. This novel was one of my favorite reads of the year, even though the book came out in 2023. In fact, I didn’t know I even liked alternative history until I read this one. Surprise!
If you’ve read either of these books, what did you think?
It’s a mad, mad, mad end-of-year Beauty Hunter $pecial.
