Let's Set Our Summer Enchantments, Day 2

Answering the tap of an unfinished project

Dear Enchanting Friends,

Ordinarily, I like to do fuck-all in the summers, other than swim and go to the lake. My ideal summer goes something like this:

  • Wake up and swim with my mates (pool or lake).

  • A quick cafe klatch, then

  • home to coach, write, and daydream.

  • By 4 o’clock I’m on my e-bike ripping down to the beach, meeting up with friends, where we breaststroke in the cove, sit and sun and quench our thirst, chat, watch the eagles swoop, admire the top of Mount Rainier poking from the horizon. It’s like we’re kids again, delighted to see each other in our usual spot, shrieking with glee at the merganser and her wee flock of 12, taking dips and talking about our next lake swim.

    Goddammit, I love summer!

    SUMMER, AND—

I’m going to keep doing exactly what I love to do in the summer—wear my swimsuits into the ground—AND . . . fill my picnic basket with goodies. These include some bite-sized snacks and one big project that is BEGGING to be completed. You really can’t stop the rushing river of Fate.

That’s what I want to encourage here. Have your full-on summer and ADD something (PS. “adding” can be deleting something, too; more quitting in the June 14 post, tomorrow’s).

The enchantment that makes my knees shake and gets me distracted is going back into a memoir manuscript I thought was finished. Nope! Must revise. I can hear the manuscript tapping at me; actually, it’s past that. It’s now POUNDING away and I must let her in, get her ready and then send her out the door and into the world.

Maybe you have an unfinished project that is whispering to you in the night. Lay out three solid months to give it your time & attention. Think about it …

In the meantime—if you don’t know what to do…

Awesome. Let’s keep it that way. Start here:

Do you have an enchantment list? Keep noodling away, roaming the neighborhood, moving through your days with the Enchantment Antenna up and feeling things out. Whatever sounds A) delightful B) weird & intriguing and C) annoying / challenging, it goes on the list!

Make an enchantment menu, see what looks yummy and place an order by June 21.

I’m right there with you!
