A Most Ordinary Valentine's Day

You're invited!

Dear Beautiful Romantics and anti-Romantics,

Here comes Valentine’s Day and all the excitement/dread/nonchalance/WTF the day brings with it.

For the next four days, we’re going to consider having the most ORDINARY V-DAYS POSSIBLE.

And still, I did ask my husband “What shall we do for Valentine’s Day?” in an excited, anticipatory tone—part teasing because it lands with a thud in our household. But also because February 14 brings an element of (for me): Hey, this Hallmark-concocted totally bullshit day is also a little 24 hours in the year carved out for us to add a little fluff to the day.

For the solo beauties out there: I have something for you tomorrow, Saturday. Stay tuned.

What does an Ordinary VD even mean? Good question. This year, I’m going to sniff out the most ordinary moments of love that sparkle and hum, even if on auto-pilot, in my marriage; pay extra attention to the things we do every single stinking day over and over again (wake, coffee, swim, ride in a car together, make dinner, talk, hug, bicker, watch tv, read, sleep and cuddle in bed—so ordinary!) and bring more care and attention and in-it-ness to the moments.

I might try turning toward my husband over dinner instead of staring out the window and being preoccupied. He is so worth my preoccupation ♥️💃🏻 Here are some other ideas.
