Dear Beautiful Friends,
Check out the great cocktail napkins my friend Diane gave me the other night (above). They are so honest funny and perfect, I can’t stand it.
I had Diane and five other women over for dinner this week. The seven of us have been gathering every month or so for 13 years. We know each other. And these six fabulistas know I like to go to bed early in order to get up at 5 am to swim. I have sometimes put a 9 pm end-time on the reminder emails when it’s my turn to host. We always go over.
Do you know what’s beautiful? Being known, really known, by other humans.
Let’s see these again:
The simplest gestures, from being lovingly teased, to being gifted a little package of cocktail napkins that spells out exactly what’s on your mind every time you entertain—goddammit, this is life at its best.
I didn’t want to use my new napkins because I didn’t want to get them . . . dirty. But I had to because, you see, this group likes to stay up later than nine. Which, in the end is what we did—10:30!!!
So, inspired by honest cocktail napkins, here’s your prompt.
What would you write on your own or a good friend’s cocktail napkins?
As you prattle through your day/s, ask your mind to go off on a walkabout, and bring home some honest cocktail napkin quips, the kind we’re always too polite to say out loud.
See if it gives you a new way to approach, experience or come at the holiday season. Ahem, it’s DECEMBER 1 already!
Need some examples? I googled “custom cocktail napkins” and mocked these up. There are a whole bunch of websites out there, choose whichever one works for you.
Now you go.
Here’s to December, and rounding out 2023. Xo
