Oh Beautiful Ones,
This countdown to summer enchantment project is keeping me on my toes! How about you? How’s that list coming?
Today let’s consider FAILURE as an enchantment.
I recently listened to a 2020 conversation between Tim Ferris & Jerry Seinfeld (wow!). In it, Ferris asks Seinfeld something like, What life experiences would you never take back (or most value). Seinfeld’s answer was: My failures.
He saw all his failures as the best and only life lessons. Gold. Impersonal data. Seinfeld put himself out there in front of audiences as often as he could to practice his art, get their feedback, and return to the writer’s table and refine. (Check out Jerry Seinfeld Comedian when he returns to the stage post “Seinfeld.” It’s failure-poetry in motion.)
Now, back to you, to us.
What if an enchantment, or how you practice that enchantment features FAILURE?
As in:
I’m willing to fail 20 times asking ________ a sensitive political question and really listening, nothing more.
I’m willing to fail 20 times writing for an hour without checking social media or email.
I’m going to do something everyday to create two new clients for my business.
I’m going to have a party, salon, workshop, ______, and I’m going to invite people and go for it, no matter what happens.
What happens is this: by not only being willing to fail, but inviting “failure” (a grim word, so how about Something Different than Expected), you show yourself that the failure won’t end your life or kill you; you won’t hear the world laughing at you on the evening news. And over time, you’ll focus on whatever you want to create and see the world more like a sandbox or open canvas than a haunted house with skeletons behind every door. Boo! Hahaha.
Watch the video, see what you think. And don’t forget: Pop-up salon awaits you on June 22. Info below. We’re doing this together! XO
