Dear Beautiful Friends,

I’m doubling down on the things that get me engaged in the here and now—also my latest definition of Beauty, and it’s not coming naturally—and here’s one: Music. More specifically, a really good song.

A while ago I was talking to Melissa, Beauty Hunter, playmate, and second-to-none leadership coach. I can’t remember which existential, non-dual topic we were exploring, but at some point, my wise, mischievous friend belted out, “Do your thing!”

Three things popped into my head:

1. That sounds great!

2. What IS my “thing”? Oh, that’s right. There is no one thing, just a multitude of things, and a universe wanting to be played with, and through the playing, we discover a thing, the things. (I was still in Inquiry land, and that’s how ideas come out).

3. What’s that Bob Dylan song . . . ? (“If Dogs Run Free”)

Then I went and found that Bob Dylan song ( sent it to Melissa) and listened to it about 10 times in a row—because, yes, my idea of beauty is playing a song on repeat. If you like a well-made, gorgeous piece of music, this one’s for you. Hey, even if you don’t, or aren’t sure—this one’s for you too!

Do your thing! Do any thing, many things. That’s the beauty of life, more possibilities than we could imagine, even in the tiny constricted spaces.

PS. This was the next song in line on my YouTube feed, one so insanely sublime that I had to drop it in here. David Byrne, bring it. Horrible quality video, but the music, oh, the music.
