Are you ready for 2023? Thankfully, 2023 is going to be open for business in just days, and the news on the street is: no “readiness” required. Apparently, 2023 is inviting us to just wake up, show up, and bring our willingness to play, in good times & bad times & everything in between. All moods welcome.
I’ll play if you will….
This “I-will-if-you-will” leads me into this week’s Q&A with beautiful human, Liz Rosen. Friend, playmate, mermaid, buddy-system companion, Liz relishes the beauty of nature and is down for life’s simple pleasures.
Liz and I met about 20 years ago through Masters swimming. This is where we instigated our Buddy System—sending each other sexy texts at bedtime to the tune of “swimming tomorrow?” Those two words were often THE reason I got my ass out of bed at 5 a.m.—always worth it, too.
We’ve had so many exquisite, gorgeous, fun, challenging, adventurous and worshipful experiences together. From lake swimming training and races and a swim vacation in Virgin Gorda to arts events, ski trips, a job, and meeting at coffee shops to talk and work.
Liz is the friend I can call up and invite over to read. This is a friendship filled with moments of sitting at a lakeside beach and staring into the rippling water and saying no more than “fucking glorious” for an hour. Liz is an easy, fun, and heartfelt companion. She celebrates the big and boisterous times with you, and will be the first one to call when the chips are down. I hope you all have a Liz in your lives.
Liz has also been my number one swim buddy since I first entered the Master’s swim world 20 years ago. Even now, living on opposite sides of the country, it hasn’t changed. A year ago we were doing 4K Wednesdays “together.” We’d text in our results.
In this week’s convo, Liz and I talk about the beauty of the buddy system, and how it is we show up for swimming (or any sport) year in year out, even when we don’t want to?
