Hey there Beauty!
[If you caught a glimpse of this yesterday, oops! Pulled the wrong lever.] So—
😃How’s your holiday shopping going?
🥹Can you believe this weather, I thought it would never stop snowing and then before I knew it BLAH BLAH BLAH BLAH . . .
😳Come here much?
😵💫What do you do?
😴Don’t tell me—Scorpio?
My brilliant, warm, fun, insightful, sunshiney, tell-it-like-it-is friend & master coach Stephanie Hardwick and I are campaigning for small talk. LOOK HOW GORGEOUS SHE IS, don’t you want to sit down with her for hours and talk and talk? Let me tell you—I do, I have, and it’s seven out of 5 stars.
Stephanie is a conversational artist. We have attended coach trainings and workshops together, shared a hotel room and stayed up talking and laughing, comparing notes. I often fall into jaw-dropped mode with her and the way Steph can sum up a complex topic with precision and passion. It’s as if I’m watching some WOW-level performance. She’s smart, she’s funny, she’s quick, she’s deep—all at fucking once. I’m a bit envious, to be honest. But I watch, listen and learn from her.
Still. Stephanie, like me, has been wondering about the so-called lower echelons pf conversation, SMALL TALK.
SO WE TALKED ABOUT IT. We challenged our prejudice against inane speaking points. And then how that has sometimes created a missed connection. Please, watch the video. Barely 4 minutes. Treat yourself to Stephanie. See our invitation, below.
TRY THIS: If you feel a shortage of holiday parties (or human connection), then come to ours! We’re calling it: Make Small Talk With Strangers and Friends, it’s on every day of the week, 24/7, and is happening IN THE WORLD. Really go for it. This is coming from someone who never asked the baristas how they were doing, never got the name of the checkout clerk I saw everyday for 10 years. Now I’m on it and it’s a fun mood-lifter. If you feel shy, just say that Stephanie and Tatyana dared you.
Give compliments, ask people what keeps them up at night, if they’ve taken up new passions, and tell them about yours. Tell them about the rain, ask them about snow, rant about the color of the sky. Make small talk with family members, your friends. What happens if you risk quantity over quality—as an experiment? You don’t have to get it right! If you have a genuine desire to connect with other humans, this will be your melody. Tell us how it goes, we want to know. XO
