Dear Beauty Hunters,
I love hot chocolate. If I had to pick, I’d take drinking chocolate over eating it any day. But guess what? I don’t HAVE to pick, so I choose both.
History hit: the Mayans were the first recorded people to drink chocolate and they mixed it with water cornmeal and chili peppers. We call that Mexican Hot Chocolate, but really, it should simply be called Hot Chocolate and our non-spicey variety should be called European Hot Chocolate.
Of late I find myself defending the sweet treat. Or, more accurately, defending the act of eating candy and drinking sweet treats like hot chocolate—not because I’m promoting diabetes, rotten teeth or bad health. But I hear so many people beating themselves up for eating candy, grabbing a cup of hot chocolate in the middle of the day that I want to step in and say: It’s OK, It’s OK, there there.
Can we let the sweet treat do what it wants to do—provide a measure of decent pleasure and delight—BEAUTY even? When one sits with a cup of steaming hot chocolate topped in a white cap of whipped cream; or, chewing on a handful of gummy bears while reading or watching a good British mystery, goddammit isn’t that a perfect moment? Of course the trick is not overdoing it, and I almost always go there, but that doesn’t mean I have to condemn the entire experience of the sweet treat.
As we flap our wings in preparation for 2023 take off, let’s revisit the 1975 hit “You Sexy Thing” by Hot Chocolate. Here’s a video of it.
Sing along. Sing “I believe in miracles, you sexy thing” as if you’re signing to 2023.
What kind of candy do you want to put on your 2023 calendar?
I suggest getting a notebook, writing a list of ONLY fun, tail-wagging miracle-events/activitites, drinking a cup of hot chocolate with a pile of whipped cream and letting your imagination rip.
Remember: you, me, them, all of us, we were made to fly and thrive and LIVE, really live the shit out of this life. What that means for any of us, who knows. Let’s find out in 2023.
XO
That's right, Mrs. Sussex. It's time to live.
